Coastal keeping pace at tourney
From the The Brunswick News
The College of Coastal Georgia men's golf team placed five players on the Southern States 10-player all-conference team Sunday, including having the conference Player of the Year in Junior Dylan Freeman.
On Monday, those five players helped the Mariners get off to a second-place start in their first-ever SSAC tournament at Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala.
Coastal's 5-under 283 has them one shot behind team leader Lee University's 282. Faulkner University is two shots off the pace at 285.
Coastal junior Chase Miller, who along with sophomores Alan Barnhardt, Allen Bradford and Hunter Cornelius, joined Freeman on the all-conference team and leads the individual competition with a 6-under 66. Miller, who was a National Junior College Athletic Association all-American as a freshman, made seven birdies in his round after bogeying the first hole.
Bradford is tied for fifth after carding a 2-under 70. Cornelius finished with a 73, and Freeman contributed a 74 on the par-72 course. Barnhardt's 79 didn't count against the team's score as only the top four scores go toward a team's total. The three-round tournament continues today with the second round.
