Rodeo at the Beach heads to town
From the The Brunswick News
The second annual Rodeo at the Beach, a two-day event hosted by the Brunswick Exchange Club, opens Friday at the Exchange Club Fairground, 101 Emory Dawson Road, Brunswick.
The rodeo competition is sanctioned by the International Pro Rodeo Association.
The event will include entertainment, food, pony rides, a bounce house, slide calf scramble, steer dressing and Chaos the mechanical bull.
A free concert featuring Chris Yates is set for Friday and on Saturday. There also will be a clogging performance, which will be put on by College of Coastal Georgia's Coastal Cloggers.
Steven Floyd, president-elect of the Exchange Club of Brunswick, says the rodeo will be fun for all ages.
"There will be good, clean family fun entertainment and (guests) will get to see professional cowboys and cowgirls compete in seven different events from bareback bronco riding to barrel racing," Floyd said.
That's the competition side. There also will be some ticklish moments.
"The College of Coastal Georgia will have three teams competing in the Dress a Steer competition that should bring a lot of laughter to the crowds," Floyd said.
Josh Garrick, also known as Porkchop the Rodeo Clown, will grace the ring with some over-the-top dance moves, off-the-cuff humor and some powerful cartwheels.
Tickets, which can be purchased at the gate the day of the events, are $12. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
All proceeds from the rodeo will go back into the community via nonprofits, Floyd said.
