Campus Astronomy Club Offers Public Celestial Views

Brunswick, GA Dr. Ntungwa Maasha, Professor of Physics and Geology, and members of the College’s Astronomy Club will set up telescopes at the Brunswick-Golden Isles Public Library, 208 Gloucester Street, from 6-8 p.m. on February 1 for a viewing of the night sky. The program is free and open to the general public as part of downtown Brunswick’s First Friday Night celebration for February.

The club plans to set up 8-inch and 10-inch Dobsonian-mount reflectors and an equatorial-mount Schmidt-Cassegrain refractor aimed at Jupiter.  Tentatively, the 10-inch will be aimed at the Andromeda galaxy and the 8-inch will be aimed at the Orion nebula.

“Current weather reports predict clear skies and we’re keeping our fingers crossed,” noted Professor Jeff LeMieux, a faculty member of the Astronomy Club.
