Coastal’s Chaney picks up award

From the The Brunswick News

College of Coastal Georgia senior forward Crystal Chaney was named the Southern States Athletic Conference women’s player of the week late Monday for her play in her team’s three games last week.

Chaney averaged 14.3 points and 12.7 rebounds in the three games as the 6-foot-1 senior from Lawrenceville helped the Mariners to two victories.

Chaney had double-double performances in both of CCGA’s wins, scoring 20 points with 20 rebounds — a conference high this season — in the 57-44 victory Monday at Truett-McConnell. In the 45- 44 home win Thursday over Southern Wesleyan, Chaney scored 11 points and had 13 rebounds.

Chaney is the first Coastal Georgia player in any sport to win the weekly conference honor as the school is competing in the SSAC for the first time this season.

On Tuesday, Chaney had another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Janele Tucker knocked down 23 points as the Coastal women won 57-46 at home over conference foe Brenau.
