College Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Build Homes
Brunswick, GA – The community has grown accustomed to seeing construction on the College campus over the past four years, but this spring, a College-sponsored construction project will be moving offsite to Blain Street. College students, faculty, staff and friends are teaming with Habitat for Humanity of Glynn County to build two new safe and affordable homes on adjacent lots in the neighborhood across Altama Avenue, within walking distance of the College.
The project kickoff will be Monday, January 21, as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service commemoration. College volunteer work crews will meet on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through April 2013 to complete the homes. No experience is required, but participants must be 18 or older. All building materials will be provided. Everyone across the campus is being encouraged to assist.
The College’s Center for Service-Learning & Community Engagement and the Office of Student Life are working together to recruit volunteers and coordinate the project.
