Mariner squads earn sweep

The College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday in dramatic fashion as Reggie Burke hit a running jumper as the horn sounded to give the Mariners a 67-65 win over visiting Coker College.

Burke, who led all scorers with 27 points, also hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 65.

Coastal (1-5) also got 20 points and 14 rebounds from Kentorey Johnson. Coker, a NCAA Division II school, was led by Julien Nelson's 23 points.

Also Tuesday at Howard Coffin Gym, the Mariner women stayed perfect on the season with a 81-47 victory over Allen University.

Five Coastal players finished in double figures, led by Courtney Saunds' 22-point effort. Maria Marshall added 11 points while Olivia Melvin and Margaret Harvey chipped in 11 each. Former Glynn Academy standout Sequoya Aldridge scored 10.

The Mariner women are now 6-0 on the season.
