College Receives 2012 GEAC Award for Overall Institutional Excellence in Advancement
Brunswick, GA – The College of Coastal Georgia’s Office of Advancement was named the state’s top advancement team for 2012 during the Georgia Education Advancement Council (GEAC) annual conference awards dinner on Thursday evening, November 15. The conference was held at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, St. Simons Island.
To be considered for the award, the institution must have demonstrated outstanding performance and commitment to the field of higher education advancement.
“Our Advancement Office is amazing. The staff is small but mighty – a committed, comprehensive, cost effective, professional, talented team – and the proof is in the fundraising, marketing and branding results we have achieved between 2009 to the present,” College President Valerie Hepburn wrote in her nomination letter.
Award criteria include branding and marketing strategy for a transforming institution; publications including annual reports, college magazines, student recruitment materials, direct mail invitations, event programs and posters; website and digital media; media relations and press coverage; alumni development and engagement; college foundation development; friend- and fund-raising events, including arts and cultural programming; community engagement; and new and successful fund-raising strategies. Additionally, the staff must have made significant and specific professional contributions that have yielded positive results for their office, institution and field.
The College’s professional advancement staff includes Elizabeth Weatherly, Chief Advancement Officer; John Cornell, Marketing and Public Relations Director; Paul Hearn, Webmaster; Jessica Dickson, Coordinator for Alumni Services and Events; Peggy Golden, Staff Writer and Special Projections Coordinator; and Robin Flores, Database Administrator and Department Coordinator. Two student assistants, Rebecca Buchanan and Logan Brown, provide additional administrative support.
GEAC is an organization for educational advancement professionals working in the areas of alumni, development, public relations and public affairs, publications and communications in public and private colleges and universities across the state.
