Brooks Named First-Team All Region

Brunswick, Ga. – College of Coastal Georgia sophomore forward Johathan Brooks has named to the Men’s Basketball All-Region First Team by the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association.

Brooks , a Macon native, has led the Mariners (16-14,10-4) of late, tallying 26 points in a recent win over Waycross College and dropping 34 points in Friday's 92-90 win over South Georgia Tech. For the 2009-10 regular season, Brooks averaged 16.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

“JB has been our go-to guy all season,” Coastal Georgia coach Gerald Cox said. “We’re happy to see him get that honor and he certainly deserves to be up there among the elite players in our region.”

The only sophomore on the Mariners’ roster heading into the Region XVII tournament, Brooks finished second in the Player of the Year voting to Middle Georgia’s Marcos Knight.

“I’m excited that I got the chance to play well, play hard and be recognized for my abilities on the court,” Brooks said of the First Team honor.

Brooks transferred to CCGA from Northwest Florida State where he was named to the Panhandle Conference second team as a freshman in 2008-09.
