College of Coastal Georgia jumped out to a big lead Wednesday and survived a Middle Georgia College¹s comeback bid to earn an 86-85 win at Howard Coffin Gym.
The Mariners started the game on a 12-0 run, jumped out to a 24-8 lead and held a 50-30 lead at halftime.
The Warriors gradually chipped away at the 20-point deficit and tied the game at 75 late in the second half. The Mariners responded with a 7-0 run to seize the lead again but Middle Georgia answered with a 6-0 run to pull within a point.
Mariners guard Jaren Harris hit three free throws in the last 20 seconds to help seal the win.
³We had to hold on to win it,² CCGA coach Gerald Cox said. ³Our whole team played well tonight.
Harris led the Mariners with 23 points. Bruns- wick High graduate Ernest Fuller scored 17 points including five 3-pointers while Jonathan Brooks chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Kentorey Johnson scored eight points and blocked six shots for the Mariners.
CCGA hosts Gordon College next Wednes- day at Howard Coffin.
