Tray Pearce scored a career high 33 points, Jaren Harris and Ernest Fuller each chipped in with 17 as the College of Coastal Georgia men's basketball team eased past Gordon College 96-78 on Wednesday night in Coffin Gymnasium.
With the win, CCGA improves to 12-11 overall and remains in first place in the GJCAA with a record of 6-1.
Coastal Georgia led 39-35 at the half, and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half, before pulling away at the end. The games closing moments were marred by a bizarre on court incident. With :30 seconds remaining in the contest and CCGA well ahead, Gordon head coach Israel Ingle called a timeout.
Following the break, Gordon guard Anthony Williams, who had played sparsely during the game, took the inbounds pass and kicked the ball into the crowd, which caused a brief commotion between the teams. A technical foul was assessed to Williams and things calmed down. Ingle had previously been assessed a technical foul.
The Mariners return to the hardwood on Saturday, when they face traditional rival Georgia Perimeter at 3p.m. in Coffin Gymnasium. The game is free to CCGA students, faculty ad staff with a valid ID, and $5 for the general public. Children under 12 are admitted free.
