Susan Shipman has been employed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Coastal Resources Division since 1979 where she has served as Division Director since 2002. As Division Director, Ms. Shipman directed Georgia’s DNR Coastal Management Program, Habitat Protection, and Permitting as well as Marine Fisheries Management. Prior to becoming Director, she served as Chief of Marine Fisheries from 1984 – 2002. Ms. Shipman served 14 years as a commissioner to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), having served as its Chair in 2001-2002. She is a member and former chair of the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. Ms. Shipman is a graduate of Leadership Glynn, Leadership Georgia, and the Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership. Ms. Shipman is a member of the YWCA Foundation Board. She and her husband Mark Jicha reside on St. Simons Island with their son Charlie, a college sophomore.
