Mel Baxter joined United Community Bank in 1989 and has served as AVP Commercial Lender, VP Commercial Lender/Branch Manager, Senior VP/Senior Lender and is currently Chairman and CEO of United Community Bank of Coastal Georgia. Mr. Baxter earned a B.S. from Georgia Southern University and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Commercial Lending School. His community involvement includes: Past Board Member of the St. Simons Rotary Club, Past Board Member Golden Isles Bowl, Past President American Cancer Society, Past Chairman St. Simons Sea Island Council, Past Chairman Brunswick - Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chair of the Chamber of Commerce's Higher Education Committee, Advisory Board Member of the American Cancer Society, and member of the Glynn County Development Authority. Mr. Baxter, his wife Lee and their children are members of the St. Simons Presbyterian Church.
