LaVerne B. Cooper is a long time member of the College of Coastal Georgia family. In January 1971 Ms. Cooper began her relationship with the College when it was known as Brunswick Jr. College. Ms. Cooper has been with the College through many of its evolutions and still remains a strong supporter to the College today. Throughout the years, Ms. Cooper has received awards and recognitions for her outstanding work within the College and the community: 1984 Excellence in Teaching- Phi Theta Kappa, 1989 Community Service Award – Brunswick College, 1994- Woman of Year- (Glynn, Camden, McIntosh Counties), 1995- Citizen of Year- Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, 1998- Black Women Community Leader- National Council of Negro Women (1 0f 4 in Georgia), 1999 Tribute to Women Community Leader Award- YWCA, and 1999 Associate Professor of Reading Emeritus.

Ms. Cooper's past and present affiliations include the YWCA Foundation, YWCA Tribute to Women Planning Committee, Board of Directors, American Red Cross, Tuskegee Alumni Association – Past President, Co chair Mental Health Association Board of Directors, CASA- (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Abused/ Neglected Children, Panel Review Team for Juvenile Court System, Communities and Schools Board of Directors, YWCA Board of Directors, Glynn School System Board of Education- (1 st African American woman chair), Abysinia Baptist Church – Sunday school superintendent, church reporter, President Women of Vision Ministry, Financial Secretary- Pastor Aide Ministry.
