Donald G. Myers
Donald G Myers led a fund-raising consulting practice for a decade until with his retirement in 2006. From 1992 to 1996, Don served as Assistant Vice President and Director of Development of the University of Georgia. From 1982 until 1992, Don served as Assistant Dean at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia. During which time he helped launch Penn’s University wide $1.5 billion campaign and chaired the American Association of Law Schools Section on Institutional Advancement and the American Bar Association Committee on Development.
Mr. Myers served from 1996 to 2001 as a CASA (court appointed special advocate) for children with the Athens-Clarke County Juvenile Court, was twice a member of the Athens CASA Board of Directors, and served on the Georgia CASA Board for three years ending in 2004. Don was a Citizen Review Panel member for the Juvenile Court of Athens-Clarke County and was a Member of the Family Counseling Service board for two terms, ending in 2005. University President Michael Adams appointed him to the Board of Advisors of the Georgia Museum of Art in November 2005, a position he continues to hold. In July 2006, Don and Susan received a Key to Athens from Mayor Heidi Davison.
On St. Simons Island, Don serves on the boards of the St. Simons Land Trust and chairs its development committee, the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and chairs its membership committee, the St. Simons Rotary Club, and is a member of the United Way Community Investment Committee. He was co-chair of the Symphony of Coastal Georgia Cabaret 2009.
Mr. Myers earned a Master of Science Degree in public relations from the Boston University School of Public Communication and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Washington and Jefferson College in 1968. A Certified Fundraising Executive; he is also certified by CASE in Program Management and Executive Management. Don’s wife, Susan, retired as Academic Dean for the Upper School at Athens Academy on June 9, 2006.
